My team at Dean Bernard Events is celebrating 5 years in the wedding and events industry and in honor of that, we decided to host a Summer Kick Off Game Day for the foster kids of Olive Crest. Olive Crest is a non-profit organization dedicated in helping the abused and neglected children.
Prior to the event, I collaborated with Home Brewed Bar in Cerritos, CA and hosted a Toy and Diaper Drive. Those who donated received 20% off their drinks at Home Brewed Bar (which is a cafe known for their delicious cold brewed coffee). It was a success and we gathered a number of new and unopened toys and diapers to donate to the kids! Thank you to everyone who came by and donated!
This year, I teamed up with the talented DJ Flobo, and Balloon Lab to make this event happen. DJ Flobo was just amazing. He brought so much energy that despite the very hot temperature, we all were able to move around and have some fun! Balloon Lab provided us with two fun balloon columns to bring color to the mini block party that the game day ended up becoming.
Our team brought in hamburgers and hotdogs, refreshments, and games for everyone, including the staff to enjoy. For activities, we played volleyball, football, basketball, water dodgeball, and even had a water gun fight. Let me tell you, I did have not have this much fun and exercise in so long, but it was all worth it.
If you know me, you know I will do whatever it takes to help others and to try to make a difference. And with the event, I feel like we did as a team. It was an eye opener for me after getting to know some of the kids and how blessed I am to have what I have and to have experienced what I did. I had a lot of respect for them for being so strong.
After a day with Olive Crest, we knew we had to come back and do another game day for them. It was so much fun. To see them all enjoy themselves together, that made it all the better. Can’t wait to visit them again!
