Classic & Laid-Back Vegan Wedding Inspiration

By: Alisha Trahms of Alisha Trahms Photography

I remember I was chatting with one of my best friends last spring. We somehow got onto the topic of weddings, as we ladies inevitably do, and she casually mentioned a few thoughts on what she would want if she could do anything for a wedding. Now, my friend is more passionate about health than anyone else I know, and more importantly, is also a vegan. So her vision naturally reflected those values. She simply listed off that must-haves were a fresh juice or smoothie bar, being outside in a gorgeous space, and of course yummy vegan food. And it got me thinking. Why have I not seen vegan wedding inspiration? That question really stuck with me over the next few weeks and I knew I had to do something with it!

At first I wasn’t entirely sure where to start. I knew that I wanted the concept to stay down to earth and simple, like a real couple might want. But I also knew I didn’t want to go the barefoot bohemian route because as much as I love that look, plant based living encompasses a wide variety of lifestyles and personalities. I wanted a classic feel with personal touches and pops of vibrant color. So when I found Woodinville Lavender the whole thing came together…the manicured green lawns and already harvested lavender bushes are the perfect backdrop for a cheerful and laid back little celebration. White seemed like a natural base to contrast with all that green, and it was all brought to life with joyful touches of fuschia, yellow, and purple.

Some of my favorite things about the shoot are the little details. First of all, I decided to incorporate a unity ceremony, which is traditionally two candles used to light a third, symbolizing blending your lives into one. But I thought twisting together curly bamboo would be an appropriate modern replacement for that, showing that though the couple is entwining their lives they still remain separate individuals choosing to grow alongside each other. Another thing I loved was the interactive guest book, which allowed guests to melt and stamp their own wax seal (with bee-free wax of course!) alongside their signature onto a grid that could later be framed and hung in the couple’s home. It’s such a fun experience, and who doesn’t love wax seals? Some other favorite features included the all cotton lace gown in which the bride looked like a Greek goddess, and the almost healthy fresh juice and champagne cocktails! All in all, I was honored to discover (and work with) so many talented vendors who are passionate about helping their clients design events that represent not only their personalities, but their lifestyles and deep care for the world around them.
